Go w/ the Flow

Are you comfortable? Think about that for a moment.

I was, comfortable in my house, comfortable with my friends. But I always thrive in fringe of comfort. I love trying new things, but even this latest event at beYOUTiful Hot Yoga, my comfortable space was seriously invaded by these two Yogi’s from Ohio. And it was amazing, transformative and fun!

The first thing they had us do is create a mega line with all of us within just a couple inches from each other-seriously close. Just that was uncomfortable, but then they had us start touching each other. Resting a foot, grabbing a hand, even touching each other’s mat felt weird.

But you have to think, is yoga meant to be comfortable? Is life supposed to be? Ben, the amazing musician who guided us with a completely fresh and upbeat music. I’d more call it a jam if I wasn’t so old. At the beginning he made us feel comfortable. He is cool, relaxed and has a vibe that you can’t help but be drawn to.

Tori, guided us through motions that pushed us past our personal space. The biggest impact to me was when we held eye contact with complete strangers next to us. At first, it was so weird. You had to look away. But after a bit, the music relaxes you, the breath grounds you and you start to rest into the pose and into the eyes of the human being across from you and a connection happens. You walk by people every day. How often do we stop to look at them as another person, a human, pain, happiness, struggle and love. It’s a powerful exercise.

At the end, I have a new friend who I gazed into her eyes for a couple minutes, a cool new way to see yoga and I felt rested, relaxed and at home in who I am and what I have to offer the world. I’d call it transformative. I didn’t want the 90 minute class to end and I couldn’t believe it was over. It felt like 20 minutes, as difficult as it was. I will never miss an event at beYOUTiful. I know now how amazing it can be.

Are you comfortable? Don’t be, as Ben says, life happens when you are uncomfortable and on the fringe. Don’t let life go comfortable, push yourself outside your comfort zone and find where it takes you.
